HISTORY
SJB Services, Inc. was established in 1992 to provide contract geotechnical and environmental drilling and construction testing services to clients throughout New York State, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Through strategic expansion and acquisition, SJB has grown to become one of the largest specialty engineering and support service firms in the Northeast with offices located near the major New York metropolitan areas of Albany, Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse.
In 2000, SJB acquired Maxim Technologies of New York, Inc. Maxim of NY, originally founded as Empire Soils Investigations in 1953 in Ithaca, NY, was an independent testing laboratory specializing in subsurface investigations, geotechnical engineering, and construction quality assurance services. As a result of this acquisition, Empire Geo Services, Inc. was formed as the New York State Registered Professional Engineering subsidiary of SJB Services, Inc. In 2002, SJB/Empire expanded further by acquiring Vanderhorst Geotechnical Engineering P.C. of Rochester, NY.
As one of a select few corporations allowed to operate as a licensed engineering firm in the United States, SJB/Empire is a full service geotechnical and environmental testing and consulting company. SJB/Empire delivers a highly qualified team of over 150 personnel, including professional engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, hydrogeologists, asbestos monitors, technicians, drillers, and administrative staff.
